Evergreen & Oak is thrilled to welcome our newest intern – Makayla Santos! We are excited to have her join our team. Makayla has already hit the ground running, working hand-in-hand with our team to create client-ready deliverables. Makayla is an impressive individual and we can’t wait to see the impact that she will make at Evergreen & Oak. Get to know a little bit more about our latest rockstar intern:
Welcome, Makayla! Tell us a bit about yourself.
Hi! My name is Makayla Santos and I am from Asheboro, N.C. I just graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where I majored in Political Science with a minor in Advertising and Public Relations. In my free time I enjoy reading, listening to music and embroidery – a hobby I just recently learned!
We have a history of rockstar PR interns due to a shared passion and dedication to public relations. What drove your interest in PR?
I became interested in PR after taking MEJO 101 during my freshman year, which gave me an overview of the careers offered in media and journalism. My interest was solidified after taking a PR writing course where I got the opportunity to work with a local nonprofit and assist in their PR efforts. I learned how much of a difference PR can make for an organization and I truly enjoyed the work.
What do you hope to learn in your time with Evergreen & Oak?
I hope to learn more about what it means to work at an agency, and how to manage multiple clients. I also hope to further my skill set in PR and gain mentorship from the Evergreen & Oak team!
Who/what has inspired you during your university career?
The person who has inspired me most during my university career would be my mom. She has always supported me in following my dreams and has encouraged me to strive to meet challenging goals. I have also had lots of wonderful mentors during my time at UNC, such as professors like Dana McMahan and Marshele Carter, both of whom have taught me fundamental skills in the advertising and PR space.
What’s the most important thing you’ve learned during a previous internship?
The most important thing I’ve learned during a previous internship is that it is always good to ask for feedback. It’s important to know what you’re doing well, and what you can improve on. Feedback helps you develop your skills and become more well-rounded in your job.
On the fun side, what book/TV/movie character do you like best? Why?
My favorite TV character is Lorelai Gilmore from Gilmore Girls. I love how witty she is, and how she is always so uniquely herself!
Where’s the next place on your travel bucket list and why?
I hope to one day be able to visit Paris! I have been obsessed with the city ever since I was a child, so it would be so cool to actually visit!
Evergreen & Oak is looking for new proactive and creative individuals to join our team. If you’re interested in being an intern, send your resume to contact@evergreenandoak.com!
