Welcome, Grace! Tell us a bit about yourself.
Hi! I’m Grace Douglas, a senior at UNC-Chapel Hill studying Journalism and Media with a concentration in Advertising and Public Relations and a certificate in Health Communication and Marketing. I am a huge coffee fan and love trying new coffee shops in the area. Outside of work and school, I love playing tennis and pickleball (although I’m not great), baking and spending time with friends and family.
We have a history of rockstar PR interns due to a shared passion and dedication to public relations. What drove your interest in PR?
I have always loved writing and creating, but I was never sure how I could apply these interests professionally. In my freshman year of college, I took an introductory class in advertising and public relations and fell in love! Each work experience that I have had since then has further solidified my interest, and I am so thankful for all the wonderful opportunities I’ve had, both in and out of school, that have contributed to my personal and professional growth.
What do you hope to learn in your time with Evergreen & Oak?
During my time with Evergreen & Oak, I am excited to gain my first agency experience. I am particularly excited to learn how to manage multiple clients and balance diverse projects. I believe this will be a great opportunity to apply my academic understanding of agencies to real-world practice.
Who/what has inspired you during your university career?
Throughout my time at UNC-Chapel Hill, my biggest inspirations have been my parents and my incredible teachers. My parents always encouraged me to do my best, take risks and step outside of my comfort zone. Each of my teachers has played a vital role in furthering my understanding of advertising and public relations, and I have gained invaluable skills throughout my time at Carolina. It has been so refreshing to see how passionate each of my teachers is about the subject, which helped strengthen my passion for the industry.
What’s the most important thing you’ve learned during a previous internship?
The most important thing that I’ve learned throughout my previous internships is to never limit yourself or underestimate your abilities. As an intern or young professional, it’s easy to feel incapable or unprepared, but it is important to push through these doubts, ask questions and make the most out of every opportunity.
On the fun side, What TV show or movie character would be the most fun to change places with for a week? Why?
Weirdly, I would like to trade places with Hilary Farr from Love It or List It. I have always loved the show, and seeing the incredible transformations that she creates in homes is amazing. I would love to experience her creative process and execution firsthand.
Where’s the next place on your travel bucket list and why?
I would love to travel to Spain someday! Spain’s architecture and landscapes are stunning and it would be amazing to experience them in person.
Evergreen & Oak is looking for new rock stars to join our team! If you’re interested in being an intern, send your resume to contact@evergreenandoak.com!
