Ready to learn more about our newest intern?
Welcome, Mallaury! Tell us a bit about yourself.
Hello! I am Mallaury Pageau, a senior at UNC-Chapel Hill from Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina. I am currently studying Advertising/PR and Communications with a concentration in Media Studies. In my free time you can find me fostering dogs from a local shelter, spending time with my friends, watching movies or trying restaurants in the area (I am a big foodie!).
We have a history of creative PR interns due to a shared passion and dedication to public relations. What drove your interest in PR?
Before becoming a student at UNC, I knew the term “public relations”, but never really knew what it meant. My freshman year I took an introduction to advertising/PR course and immediately knew that this was the career path I was going to pursue. Since then, with each class I have taken, I have felt more and more compelled by the world of PR and grown a deeper passion for the industry.
What do you hope to learn in your time with Evergreen & Oak?
During my time with Evergreen & Oak, I hope to strengthen my knowledge of the field and grow my client industry experience. I also hope to perfect my hard and soft communication skills within PR and grow my confidence in my analytical and research skills.
Who/what has inspired you during your university career?
My parents and professors are my biggest motivators and source of inspiration. They have always told me to chase my dreams and do things that push me outside of my comfort zone. Being a student at UNC’s Hussman School of Journalism and Media has allowed me to learn from some of the best in the business. Hearing their personal stories has guided me to create my own career aspirations and shown that the sky truly is the limit.
What’s the most important thing you’ve learned during a previous internship?
Previous internships have taught me the importance of time management and effective collaboration. Working with a team means that you must be able to adapt to accommodate others, this skill has served me well outside of the work environment. Along with this, previous internships have taught me that asking questions is the best way to learn, which is something I will carry with me throughout the rest of my career!
On the fun side, what TV show or movie character would be the most fun to change places with for a week? Why?
If I had to pick a character to trade places with, it would have to be Charlotte York from Sex and the City. She has the best outfits and is such a girl’s girl and who wouldn’t want to live on the Upper East Side for a week.
Where’s the next place on your travel bucket list and why?
I would LOVE to go to Morocco! I can just imagine myself on the ATVs in the desert, sand surfing on the dunes or even riding a camel; it sounds epic!
